SMALL BATCH BREWS. LARGE BATCH OVERTHINKING. ✳ A café concept by Rei

OUR STORY / A FICTIONAL ORIGIN, REAL CURIOSITY

It started with coffee.
And a scope problem.

“I’ll just make a simple café website.”
Famous last words, said one research section ago.

Coffee and pastries at our imagined Brew LabFIG. 01 — THE RESEARCH FUEL
CHAPTER ONE: THE IMAGINARY CAFÉ

A third place.
With fewer meetings.

In our completely fictional origin story, Rei opened a café because coffee was the only project dependency that never needed a version update.

The brief was simple: warm light, good drinks, fresh bakes, and a table where you can read, sketch, code, or stare thoughtfully into the middle distance. Productivity is welcome. It is not a condition of entry.

There is no secret family recipe dating back seven generations. There is a developer with an unreasonable interest in getting the details right. Honestly, that felt like enough.

Less hustle culture. More pastry culture. ♡

CHAPTER TWO: THE ACTUAL HUMAN

The owner is fictional.
The background isn’t.

I’m Wong Zhen Hao, also known as Rei, a Diploma in Information Technology graduate from Sunway University with a final cGPA of 3.95/4.00. I build software and web experiences, and enjoy projects that connect research with things people can actually use.

At Sunway’s Research Centre for Human-Machine Collaboration (HUMAC), I worked on software and integration for a web-operated hexapod robot. That research received a Best Paper Award at IET ICETA 2026 in Taiwan.

My other interests include quantitative trading research, heart disease prediction, and websites. So naturally, here we are, discussing croissants.
